What it is

A “personality-at-work” survey tool to understand better your working style and that of your colleagues as related to four core archetypes (Pioneer, Guardian, Driver, and Integrator). While there are many personality systems out there, we like Biz Chem best because it is simple, backed by research, and tightly focused on how you show up at work. 

When to use

When members of your team have differences of working style that can get in the way of effective collaboration. 

When not to use

When there is already another personality system entrenched in your team (too confusing), or as a “screen” for choosing among candidates for a job or project role. 

Tradecraft tips

Never forget that all archetypes are valuable and can succeed in any given role (albeit in different ways). Almost nobody is a “pure” example of any of the types—rather, everyone embodies all four archetypes at some times and situations. Drivers and Integrators both have two versions—an introverted one and an extroverted one—with important differences.
